ABOUT
Carly Hitchcock is a multidisciplinary artist and designer whose work explores emotional landscapes, animistic beliefs, and relationships between nature and culture.
Carly draws from a variety of influences including antique Japanese pottery and textiles, and Korean folk art. These influences are woven into poetic paintings using gouache, and delicate hand-stitched textile pieces. Her current body of work focuses on the local plants, animals and geographic forms of the places she’s lived in.
Born in South Africa and raised in New Zealand, Carly has lived and worked in Japan, South Korea and now Australia. She is currently based in the peaceful regional city of Ballarat. It was in Japan that she honed her visual style and lifelong love of traditional crafts, while running a business selling artisan Japanese ceramics. Trained as a graphic designer, Carly uses her eye for composition and detail to carefully create each piece. Her work weaves together tales of nature and culture, inviting viewers in to reflect on their own journeys.
Carly has exhibited in Ballarat, Daylesford, Geelong, Melbourne and Roma, Queensland. Select pieces can be found in stores in Ballarat, as well as through her online shop.
